Why the Rose?
As I was hanging laundry out on the line yesterday afternoon, I had to think about the beauty of the seasons. I’m lucky to live in a state that experiences every season. How much more do I appreciate warm days after enduring a winter of bitterly cold days and a barren landscape. The promise of new life and new beginnings brings a smile to my face.
My mother-in-law asked what this “Prairie Rose Ramblings” thing is all about. I hope this answers that question. This blog is an opportunity, an opportunity to share my life, and for you to share yours. Growing up in a Mennonite church and home, the faith community was always stressed as one of the primary vehicles for faith development. Our lives are connected to the community with visible and invisible ways. As I wonder about the ways I can be a faithful woman of God, I invite you to share your own insights and thoughts in response to my own.
One might not consider a prairie rose beautiful in a tropical setting surrounded by lush tropical blooms, but under the wide prairie skies of Kansas, stumbling upon such beauty when you least expect it, may render you speechless. Just as a prairie rose blooms where it belongs, we have the potential to be beautiful where God plants us. When we thrive with what we have been given, and seek to live to our fullest potential, we become that beautiful unexpected flower adding beauty to others’ lives and a witness to the love lavished on us all.
Thank you for joining me on the journey; I can’t wait to see who we will become.
